The Millard North Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Bellevue East Chieftains at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Millard North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Bellevue East will be up against a hot Millard North squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Millard North blew past Woodridge 10-0 on Saturday.
Wade Spencer looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Collin Driffill, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Braydan Weindel, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Millard North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Bellevue East made sure to put some runs up on the board against Omaha North on Thursday. Bellevue East walked away with a 10-7 win over Omaha North. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Chris Hedlund was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Hank Cloyd also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Bellevue East has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. Millard North's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Millard North has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Bellevue East struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
