Rocky Mountain is 8-1 against Loveland since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lobos will venture away from home to challenge the Red Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Rocky Mountain will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Rocky Mountain came out on top against Rock Canyon on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Lobos were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Jaguars. Considering the Lobos have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Ross Frank made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Rocky Mountain let Erik Jacobson and Roan Kachel run wild. Jacobson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Kachel went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Jacobson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Max Abernathy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Rocky Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Loveland unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Bear Creek by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Red Wolves have suffered since April 7th.
Loveland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Dunbar, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Rocky Mountain's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Loveland, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.
Rocky Mountain's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Lobos have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Loveland, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Rocky Mountain continue to outrun the ball?
Rocky Mountain skirted past Loveland 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lobos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
