Hononegah is 9-1 against Belvidere since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the Buccaneers at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hononegah's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Jefferson with a sharp 16-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Indians considering their one-run performance the game before.
Makenly Jensen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Jensen was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hononegah got a massive performance out of Cassidy Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gillian Midgett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.
Hononegah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .828. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Belvidere entered their tilt with Freeport on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Pretzels 12-1.
The team relied heavily on Emily Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cadence Trevino, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Hononegah's record is now 12-5. As for Belvidere, their record now sits at 12-10.
Hononegah was able to grind out a solid victory over Belvidere when the teams last played back in April, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
