It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Las Animas Trojans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Crowley County 36-34. The victory was just what Las Animas needed coming off of a 51-8 defeat in their prior match.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Las Animas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emma Netherton, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Netherton is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Russell, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Las Animas pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Crowley County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Las Animas will challenge Holly at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Holly will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Las Animas is ranked 107th). As for Crowley County, they will head out on the road to face off against Hoehne at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hoehne is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
