The Bishop Verot Vikings entered their tilt with the Cypress Lake Panthers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Bishop Verot walked away with a 57-46 win over the Panthers on Tuesday. Given Bishop Verot's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Panthers are ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Verot's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jerry Ashley, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last eight times he's played. Gavin Williams was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Cypress Lake's loss came despite strong showings from Obang Ochan and Giordan Easely. Ochan scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Easely scored ten points along with four steals. Easely hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games.
Bishop Verot has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Cypress Lake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Verot will take on the Celtics at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cypress Lake, they will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
