Sumner is 10-0 against Puyallup since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Sumner Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Puyallup Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Sumner is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
In what's become a running theme this season, Sumner gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They blew past Curtis, posting a 63-9 win on the road. Given Sumner's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Curtis is ranked 275th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sumner's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lainee Houillon, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Houillon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played. Olivia Collins was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six steals.
Puyallup only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 23-point they dealt Fife on Monday. Puyallup blew past Fife 43-20. 43 seems to be a good number for Puyallup as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Sumner's win bumped their record up to 16-1. As for Puyallup, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-9.
Everything came up roses for Sumner against Puyallup in their previous meeting on January 6th as the team secured a 57-16 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumner since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
