Downey had won four straight games and Madeline Garcia did her part to make it five on Saturday. The Vikings walked away with a 13-6 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars for which the team can thank Garcia, who rushed for 100 yards and one score on only nine carries, and also threw for 240 yards and one TD while completing 76.5% of her passes. Her passing game has become a key predictor of Downey's success: the team is 5-1 when her passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

Downey's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Rancho Cucamonga, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Downey is set to square off against their familiar foe Troy at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Rancho Cucamonga will face off against rival Chino at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Cougars 8.7, the Cowboys 3.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
