The McCutcheon Mavericks will head out to take on the Avon Orioles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. McCutcheon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
McCutcheon had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Greenfield-Central on Saturday. The Mavericks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 10-0 shutout. The Mavericks not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26th (when they won 12-1).
McCutcheon got a big performance out of Sam Swank, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jake Winger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
McCutcheon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Avon faced Fishers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Orioles put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 7-0 win.
Carter Beck tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last four games.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Clayton Lenz, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Jaden Mitchell was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
McCutcheon's record is now 8-9. As for Avon, their record now sits at 15-7.
McCutcheon came out on top in a nail-biter against Avon when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Orioles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
