Basketball Recap: Stevens Falls Despite Big Games from Richard Guerra and Bakari Brown

Stevens lost against Harlan back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Stevens Falcons came up short against the Harlan Hawks, falling 66-42. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while the Hawks are ranked 108th).

Stevens' loss came despite strong showings from Bakari Brown and Richard Guerra. Brown posted 14 points and seven boards, while Guerra earned 16 points. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in points. Eric Santana also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Harlan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kameron Williams led the charge by putting up 17 points. Another player making a difference was Josiah Jones, who had 14 points.

Stevens is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-15. As for Harlan, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season.

Stevens wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 89-51 loss against Brennan on the 5th. Harlan has also already played their next game, an 85-55 victory against Taft on the 5th.
