The Wahoo Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Douglas County West Falcon at 2:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wahoo scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They greeted the New Year with with a 59-43 win over Lincoln Lutheran. Given Wahoo's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Lincoln Lutheran is ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wahoo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sidney Smart, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Lausterer, who scored 14 points along with six assists.
Meanwhile, even though Omaha Nation scored an imposing 61 points on Saturday, Douglas County West still came out on top. Douglas County West secured a 66-61 W over Omaha Nation.
Grace Holm was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Ava Grimm was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Wahoo has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Douglas County West, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Saturday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Wahoo have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 35.7% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Douglas County West struggles in that department as they've nailed 42% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wahoo took their win against Douglas County West in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 69-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wahoo since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
