Baseball Game Preview: Orion Chargers vs. Hall Red Devils

Orion is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Friday. They will take on the Hall Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. Orion will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Orion had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Bureau Valley on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Storm an 8-0 shutout. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Griffen Tennant and Mason Laleman were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Tennant tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Laleman didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. At the plate, Tennant scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Laleman scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that Tennant snagged this season.

In other batting news, Maddux Anderson was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Orion is undefeated when Anderson posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dayne Franks, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Orion always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Hall came up short against Ottawa on Tuesday and fell 9-5. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Orion's record is now 5-3. As for Hall, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Orion might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Hall in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
