The Noblesville Millers will take on the Pendleton Heights Arabians at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Noblesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Noblesville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Cathedral, who was ranked seventh at the time (Noblesville was ranked tenth). The Millers fell just short of the Fighting Irish by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday. That makes it the first time this season the Millers have let down their home crowd.
Noblesville got a good showing from Addison Retzinger, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Retzinger has allowed since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Maggie Kern and Haley Schatko did some serious damage despite the final result: Kern went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Schatko went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Addi Emmerson was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pendleton Heights). They blew past Kokomo 18-5 on Tuesday. Considering the Arabians have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Kaylee Smith, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avry Miller, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Pendleton Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory got Pendleton Heights back to even at 8-8. As for Noblesville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-4.
Pendleton Heights' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Noblesville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Pendleton Heights, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Noblesville keep running through batters, or will the Arabians buck the trend?
Noblesville came out on top in a nail-biter against Pendleton Heights in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Millers repeat their success, or do the Arabians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
