Westlake is 10-0 against La Plata since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Westlake Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the La Plata Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Westlake entered their tilt with Great Mills with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Westlake managed a 56-51 win over Great Mills on Wednesday. The win was all the more spectacular given Westlake's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Great Mills is ranked 50th).
Melvin Newman had an outrageously good game as he scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Julius Johnson Jr was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, La Plata came into Wednesday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Patuxent by a score of 58-47 on Wednesday.
Westlake's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for La Plata, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13.
Westlake skirted past La Plata 67-65 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Does Westlake have another victory up their sleeve, or will La Plata turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
