Paradise and Colusa are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Bobcats will host the RedHawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Paradise took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past CORE Butte 7-5.
Grace Meldrum made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Maggiemae Stratton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Sequoya Fields was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Colusa had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bobcats an 11-0 shutout. Give the RedHawks' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Like Paradise, Colusa also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Garcia. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Garcia was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Braelyn Santana and Caeden Agnew did most of the damage at the plate: Santana scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Agnew scored three runs and stole three bases. Those three runs gave Agnew a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elli Santana, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Colusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paradise only posted an OBP of .263.
Colusa pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Paradise, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season.
Paradise suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Colusa in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
