Westport is 9-1 against Avon since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Westport Wildcats will be playing at home against the Avon Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Westport will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings (they are ranked 251st, while Avon is ranked 88th).
Last Sunday, Westport ended up a good deal behind Bedford and lost 72-53.
Meanwhile, Avon put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Norfolk County Agricultural at home to the tune of 83-46. Avon has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.
Thomas Irby was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 19 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josiah Guerrier, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds.
Westport has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Avon, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-0.
Everything came up roses for Westport against Avon in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 77-48 win. Does Westport have another victory up their sleeve, or will Avon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
