Basketball Recap: Leah Elizabeth Ann Jackson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hilton Head Island over Bishop England

Hilton Head Island lost against Bishop England on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Hilton Head Island Seahawks fell to the Bishop England Battling Bishops 35-31. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Battling Bishops are ranked 27th).

Hilton Head Island lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Leah Elizabeth Ann Jackson, who posted seven points along with 15 rebounds and five steals. That's the most boards Elizabeth Ann Jackson has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Abby O'Nan, who earned 12 points.

Even though they lost, Hilton Head Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Hilton Head Island's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Bishop England, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hilton Head Island has already played their next game (against Bluffton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bishop England will square off against May River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for May River: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Bishop England has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
