DeSoto extended their home winning streak to 13 games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Emmy Barnes. The DeSoto Thunderbirds breezed by the Marvell Academy Eagles to the tune of 67-25 on Monday thanks in part to Barnes, who went 11 for 16 on her way to 31 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards gave her a new career-high.
The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Jo Holder, who posted seven points in addition to seven boards and five assists. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played.
DeSoto's victory bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Marvell Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
DeSoto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 77-42 win against West Memphis Christian on the 17th. As for Marvell Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Calhoun Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 14, 2025.
