The Los Gatos Wildcats will take on the Milpitas Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Los Gatos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Milpitas will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Los Gatos extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Wildcats came out on top against Gunn by a score of 9-6.
Danica DeSantis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Grace Tucker was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Sickels, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Los Gatos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Gunn hit Milpitas with a five-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell just short of the Titans by a score of 7-6. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
April Price made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Dahana Gonzalez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Los Gatos' win bumped their record up to 15-7-1. As for Milpitas, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Milpitas' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Los Gatos has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Milpitas, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Los Gatos keep running through batters, or will the Trojans buck the trend?
Los Gatos was able to grind out a solid victory over Milpitas in their previous meeting on Monday, winning 8-3. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
