The Destin Sharks were the 40-36 winner over the South Walton Seahawks when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Destin was the victim of a tough 66-43 defeat at the hands of South Walton on Friday. While losing is never fun, Destin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 401st, while South Walton is ranked 186th).
Destin lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyler Flynt, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Decorian Champion, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Leading South Walton to victory were Jaden Robinson and Brock Ward. Robinson scored 16 points along with four steals, while Ward scored 22 points. Robinson is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Camron Titus was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Destin has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-13 record this season. As for South Walton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-8.
Destin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Walton, they will face off against Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Walton is coming into the matchup with four straight victories on the road, meaning Bay will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
