Westfield extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-8 in the process. They lost 8-2 to the Mt. Vernon Marauders. Surprisingly, this marked the Shamrocks' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Westfield got a good showing from Shea Vohs, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Vohs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ava Kainrath was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
As for Mt. Vernon, they moved to 4-12 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. Surprisingly, this marked their fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
On Mt. Vernon's side, Graci Hines made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Hines has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double.
In other batting news, Emma Jenkins was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Breanna Laffey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westfield will host Pendleton Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shenandoah at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for the Marauders: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Raiders have snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
