After two games on the road, Valley is heading back home. They will take on the Del Norte Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Valley faced the Huskies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Valley was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Huskies. The loss was just more heartbreak for Valley, who fell 50-47 when the teams last met back in January of 2023.
Defeat or not, Valley got some senior leadership from Julian Chavez and Rosendo Roybal. Chavez dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Roybal. almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Luciano Mondragon was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Del Norte lost to the Chargers at home by a decisive 71-52 margin on Wednesday. Del Norte has not had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Valley's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5. As for Del Norte, they dropped their record down to 5-15 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
Valley came up short against the Knights when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 44-38. Thankfully for Valley, Shane Douma-Sanchez (who scored 22 points along with seven assists and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
