Cleveland is 5-0 against Kennedy since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Cleveland Cavaliers will look to defend their home field against the Kennedy Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Cleveland strolled past El Camino Real with points to spare, taking the game 34-20. The victory was just what Cleveland needed coming off of a 43-6 loss in their prior contest.
Cleveland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kory Hall out in front who picked up 91 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Hall was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 60 yards. Domenik Fuentes was another key contributor, throwing for 208 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Kennedy had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They blew past Van Nuys, posting a 42-15 win at home. The result was nothing new for Kennedy, who have now won five matches by 27 points or more so far this season.
Diego Montes and Alonzo Fuentes-gutierrez were among the main playmakers for Kennedy as the former rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries and the latter rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Giovanni Nelson also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.
Cleveland's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-3. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely El Camino Real, Chatsworth, and Taft. As for Kennedy, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Cleveland has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 223.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Cleveland took their win against Kennedy when the teams last played back in August by a conclusive 49-27. Does Cleveland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kennedy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
