Baseball Game Preview: Ripley Vikings vs. Frankfort Falcons

The Ripley Vikings will square off against the Frankfort Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Ripley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Winfield get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won six matches in a row.

Bryson Casto was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Meadows, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Curry, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Ripley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Frankfort faced Fairmont Senior in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Polar Bears with a sharp 13-5 victory. The game was the first time the Falcons have beaten the Polar Bears on their field since May 15, 2021.

Frankfort is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Ripley, their victory bumped their record up to 23-8.
