Buckeye has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Washington Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Buckeye posted their biggest win since December 6, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Independence, posting a 67-9 win at home. Given Buckeye's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Independence is ranked 290th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amayah Leyva was her usual excellent self, scoring 33 points along with eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Tia Chapman was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, Washington humbled Sierra Linda with a 61-24 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Washington.
Buckeye is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Washington, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Everything came up roses for Buckeye against Washington in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 78-42 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Buckeye since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
