Sanford is 10-0 against Wilmington Friends since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Sanford Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Wilmington Friends Quakers at 5:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Sanford beat St. Andrew's 44-32. Given Sanford's advantage in MaxPreps' Delaware basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while St. Andrew's is ranked 40th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sanford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayden Taylor, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Marquis Newson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Wilmington Friends had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They strolled past Wilmington Christian with points to spare, taking the game 61-43.
Sanford pushed their record up to 12-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Wilmington Friends, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Sanford against Wilmington Friends when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 66-25 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sanford since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
