Marana is 0-6 against Canyon del Oro since March of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. Marana will venture away from home to take on Canyon del Oro at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Marana's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Sabino 12-0. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Sabercats: they've now won four in a row.
Not much got past Kai Colgan, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Sabino off the board. Furthermore, Colgan didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Brandon Collings was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Julian Llamas also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Canyon del Oro entered their tilt with Maricopa on Tuesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 14-0 win. The Dorados' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Canyon del Oro also got a great performance from Regen Mazura as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Mazura has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Francisco Rivero was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. David Adams was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Canyon del Oro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maricopa only posted an OBP of .190.
Canyon del Oro's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Marana, their record is now 5-8.
Marana might still be hurting after the 14-7 loss they got from Canyon del Oro in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Marana avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
