The Portal Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Portal has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Portal has not done well against Emanuel County Institute recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Portal took down Emanuel County Institute 58-42.
Meanwhile, McIntosh County Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 13th straight loss. They were outmatched by Montgomery County on the road and fell 50-20. While losing is never fun, McIntosh County Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 479th, while Montgomery County is ranked 84th).
Portal's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-13. As for McIntosh County Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with that loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Portal was able to grind out a solid win over McIntosh County Academy in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 48-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Portal since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
