4A Region II District 13 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Sherman moved up to 84 from 121 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region II District 13. The Bearcats climbed the ranks as a result of besting Wylie East 49-38.
Lovejoy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating McKinney North, 24-17. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Bowman Sells and Nicholaas La Sane gave Lovejoy a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Sells threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns, while La Sane ran for 112 yards. Teammate Sells added to the ground attack by rushing for 57 yards.
Jackson Watts provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Royse City lost to Denison. He completed 22 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 49 yards. Watts' favorite target this week was Michael Webb, who caught 10 passes for 119 yards.
Sherman's Dru Smith and Jt Luper have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1772 yards this season, while Luper, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 31 catches for 615 yards. Matt Green's team's La Sane leads the league in rushing yards with 752.
A big matchup in 4A Region II District 13 this week will be when Gary Joe Kinne's team takes on the Bulldogs. The Bearcats are in second place, while Royse City is in fifth place.
Wylie took down Greenville 50-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
