The Connally Cadets entered their tilt with the Robinson Rockets with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Connally enjoyed a cozy 42-24 victory over Robinson on Friday. Given Connally's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 197th, while Robinson is ranked 472nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Connally's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was J'ylon Nobles, who picked up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Nobles was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 60 yards. Another big playmaker for Connally was Ja'morris Sayles, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Connally's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Robinson's QB won't forget Issacc Perez anytime soon given Perez sacked him four times.
When it comes to explaining why Robinson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Christian Lujan. Despite the final result, he rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown.
Connally's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Robinson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.
Connally will face off against Giddings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Giddings focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday. As for Robinson, they will face off against Cuero at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cuero knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Robinson likes a good challenge.
