Pueblo County is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Coronado Cougars will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Pueblo County took a loss when they played away from home back in September, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They really took it to Pueblo South for the full four quarters, racking up a 35-6 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.

Brody Harrison looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes, and also rushing for 52 yards. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pueblo County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 195 rushing yards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.
Another reason for the win was Pueblo County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Leading the way was Luca Tucci with five. Tucci is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Pueblo County received some extra help from Marcus Lucero, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Coronado strolled past Berthoud with points to spare two weeks ago, taking the game 40-22. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Pueblo County better keep an eye on Thomas Buckmiller. He was instrumental in Coronado's win, throwing for 309 yards and three TDs while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also punching in a pair of scores on the ground. Their leading receiver Lyrik Smith was Buckmiller's top target yet again, picking up 137 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Coronado didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brayden Taylor and Vaughn Miller.
Pueblo County now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Coronado, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Pueblo County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 264.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Coronado, though, as they've been averaging only 84.6 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Pueblo County against Coronado in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 41-12 win. In that contest, the Hornets amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
