Basketball Recap: Decatur Community Takes a Loss

Decatur Community lost against Trego back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Decatur Community Red Devils fell to the Trego Golden Eagles 54-48.

Despite the loss, Decatur Community saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gage Williby went 8 for 19 on his way to 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Williby is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Ostmeyer, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Decatur Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 4-2. As for Trego, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

After both having extra time off, Decatur Community and Logan/Palco will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 3rd. Logan/Palco is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season. As for Trego, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rawlins County at 7:00 p.m. on January 7th.
