The Weld Central Rebels will take on the Brush Beetdiggers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Weld Central took an 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Fort Morgan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rebels had just enough and edged out the Mustangs 7-5.
Lucas Johann was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Brush owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lyons, sneaking past 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Beetdiggers have posted since May 8, 2025.
The result came thanks to Ben Mettlen's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Brush is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-7 otherwise.
At the plate, Brush's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Keeton Jilek, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Weld Central has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Brush, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Weld Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brush struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Weld Central came up short against Brush in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, falling 5-1. Will the Rebels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
