Hondo has gone a perfect 4-0 against Dilley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Hondo Owls will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dilley Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Hondo has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Hondo is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Cotulla just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 13-3 to the Cowboys. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Owls have suffered since April 25, 2024.
Hondo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xevi Hernandez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Dilley got the win against Crystal City on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-6. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.
Izabella Proctor was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Dilley got a massive performance out of Dakota San Miguel, who went 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave San Miguel a new career-high. Madelyne Proctor was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Dilley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crystal City only posted an OBP of .344.
Dilley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. Hondo's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hondo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dilley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Hondo's way against Dilley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Hondo made off with a 15-9 victory. Will Hondo repeat their success, or does Dilley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
