On Friday, The Rock Port Blue Jays faced the Mound City Panthers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Rock Port took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mound City. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (40), Rock Port still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Rock Port lost, one person who can't be blamed is Corbyn Jakub. Despite the final result, he rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Jakub is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last four games he's played. Jack Meyerkorth was another key contributor, gaining 136 total yards and a touchdown.
Rock Port are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7. As for Mound City, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Rock Port does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mound City will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against South Holt. South Holt has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 602 points over their last nine games.
