The Johnston Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Scituate Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Johnston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Johnston had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt South Kingstown on Tuesday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 14-1 win. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Haley Boudreau made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kalyn Foster and Alanna Colon did most of the damage at the plate: Foster went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Colon went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Colon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Boudreau, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Johnston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Cumberland hit Scituate with a four-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans came up short against the Clippers, falling 12-6. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Victoria Geisser made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Katelyn Chatelle also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Johnston's record now sits at 10-5. As for Scituate, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
Scituate's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Johnston has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Scituate, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Johnston keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Johnston came out on top in a nail-biter against Scituate when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
