University extended their postseason success on Saturday against Coastal Christian. They blew past the Conquerors 10-2. Considering the Trojans have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Carson Cruz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, University let Sophia Weinberg and Amela Hoang run wild. Weinberg went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Hoang went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Hoang has posted since back in February. Sienna Gillen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The win made it two in a row for University and bumps their season record up to 13-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Coastal Christian, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 11-3 record.
Looking ahead, University will take on Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. Coastal Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
