South Pike has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Port Gibson Blue Waves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Pike focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, South Pike sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 win over the Bulldogs.
Lavell Thompson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Port Gibson scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 85-39 win over Wesson on the road. Given Port Gibson's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Cobras are ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Pike's record is now 10-14. As for Port Gibson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season.
South Pike came up short against the Blue Waves in their previous matchup last Monday, falling 54-45. Can South Pike avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
