The South El Monte Eagles and the Ventura Cougars squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but sadly the South El Monte Eagles had to settle for second. They were the victim of a rough 62-42 loss at the hands of the Cougars. South El Monte's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, South El Monte had strong showings from Aden Segura, who scored 18 points, and Tony Aguilar, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Leading Ventura to victory were Finn Fancher and Travis Valenzuela. Fancher dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Valenzuela dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Valenzuela has scored all season. Caleb Sebek was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
South El Monte's defeat dropped their record down to 12-16. As for Ventura, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-16.
South El Monte does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Ventura will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Calvary Baptist at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Ventura knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Calvary Baptist likes a good challenge.
