Port Jervis is a perfect 3-0 against Liberty since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Raiders will square off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Liberty will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Port Jervis extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday. The Raiders never let Sullivan West get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.
Liberty not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024 (when they won 24-2). They put the hurt on Fallsburg with a sharp 22-0 victory. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Angie Wheeler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Liberty got a massive performance out of Giuliana Wagner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and two runs. Cameryn Will was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .729. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Port Jervis pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Liberty, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Port Jervis took their win against Liberty in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
