Academy of the New Church has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The St. Andrew's Cardinals at noon on Saturday. Academy of the New Church will be strutting in after a win while St. Andrew's will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Saturday, Academy of the New Church was able to grind out a solid victory over Pennington, taking the game 19-6. The win was all the more spectacular given Academy of the New Church's disadvantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 236th in Pennsylvania, while Pennington is ranked 34th in New Jersey).
Academy of the New Church's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hunter Aquino led the charge by throwing for 93 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Davontay Wynder also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, St. Andrew's suffered a rough 36-14 loss at the hands of Polytech on Friday.
Academy of the New Church's victory was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 5-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.6 points per game. As for St. Andrew's, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4-1.
Everything went Academy of the New Church's way against St. Andrew's when the teams last played back in October of 2018 as Academy of the New Church made off with a 44-24 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Academy of the New Church since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
