The Hancock County Hornets will take on the Apollo Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Hancock County's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Apollo has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Hancock County turned things around against Ohio County on Monday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 6-3.
Bella Bryant was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Bryant was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Bryant wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryleigh French, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jordyn Waltrip also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Hancock County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ohio County only posted a batting average of .231.
Meanwhile, Apollo got their first taste of in-conference action on Monday and they started things off strong. They skirted past Owensboro Catholic 3-2.
Mollie Julian spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
Apollo is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hancock County, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Apollo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hancock County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. It's a different story for Apollo, though, as they've only averaged .289. Will they be able to contain Hancock County's hitters?
