Garner has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Fuquay - Varina Bengals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Garner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Tuesday.
Garner struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Storm had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Garner was dealt a 62-25 loss at the hands of the Storm. While losing is never fun, Garner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while the Storm are ranked 29th).
The losing side was boosted by Olivia Jacobs, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 52% of Garner's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Fuquay - Varina ended up a good deal behind the Bulldogs on Friday and lost 46-29. Fuquay - Varina has struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as their match on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Fuquay - Varina had strong showings from Abigail Meaney, who scored four points along with six rebounds and six steals, and Cate Dilley, who scored six points. Meaney hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Garner's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Fuquay - Varina, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Garner have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fuquay - Varina struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Garner lost to the Bengals on the road by a decisive 60-41 margin in their previous matchup back in January. Can Garner avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
