The Dansville Mustangs will head out to challenge the Le Roy Oatkan Knights at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Dansville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Dansville blew Hornell out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Hornell got their revenge. The Mustangs fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since April 9th.
Dansville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cam Delaney, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Le Roy got the win against Waterloo on Saturday by a conclusive 12-2. The Oatkan Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Austin Cordaro made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Brady McClurg was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jake Higgins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Le Roy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Le Roy pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Dansville, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-6.
Sunday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dansville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Le Roy struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dansville might still be hurting after the 19-9 defeat they got from Le Roy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
