Everything went their way against Patterson on Thursday as Central Catholic made off with a 64-39 victory. The victory was all the more spectacular given Central Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Patterson is ranked 109th).
Central Catholic was led to victory by Wesley Payne and Jordan Magana. Payne scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Magana went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 4 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Magana has scored at least 25% of Central Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Wentworth, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Patterson still got an impressive performance from David Nnaji, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. The match was Nnaji's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Coley, who scored ten points.
Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Patterson, their loss dropped their record down to 9-1.
