Basketball Recap: Sandy Creek Takes a Loss

Sandy Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. The contest between them and the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals didn't end well, with the Sandy Creek Cougars falling 81-63. The Cougars were probably out for revenge after losing 57-34 to them when the teams met back in December of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Sandy Creek lost, don't look at Ethan Shaw. Despite the final result, he went 10 of 15 on his way to 26 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Wes Biltoft, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sandy Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Doniphan-Trumbull to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Poppe, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 22 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Volk, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards.

Sandy Creek's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Sandy Creek Cougars take on the Howells-Dodge Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, they will host Concordia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
