3A Northern recap Sept. 26, 2012
Santiago Marin and Simeon Freeland provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Berthoud. The longest such play in 3A Northern this season, the connection resulted in 85 yards.
Erie extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mead, 24-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Tigers.
Denver North's dynamic duo of Marin and Freeland proved tough for the Spartans to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Marin threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns and Freeland had 153 yards receiving. Gabriel Ubias helped Denver North's passing attack out by catching five balls for 68 yards.
Tommy Spitzer made the biggest impact on defense this week as Holy Family lost to Silver Creek. The 6-foot-2 senior racked up two sacks.
Jacob Sleeth was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 137 yards on 20 carries as Frederick fell to Berthoud. Jaron Balman also contributed to the rushing game with 55 yards on the ground.
Centaurus's David Shald and Brody Jaskul have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Northern in both passing and receiving yards. Shald has thrown for 671 yards this season, while Jaskul, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 13 catches for 223 yards. Jarred Deherrera from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 656 yards.
Erie was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Larry Gartrell's team defeated the Maverick 24-0 earlier in the week.
