The Poudre Impalas will take on the Greeley West Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Poudre's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Greeley West has been banged up by 11 consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Highlands Ranch hit Poudre with a four-run seventh inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Impalas fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 7-6.
Angelo Vieira put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Vieira was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Vieira wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tony Mondragon, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Mondragon has hit this season. Jackson Elser was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Greeley West came up short against Erie on Monday, falling 13-2.
Nic Hernandez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Greeley West's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Poudre, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Greeley West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Poudre has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. It's a different story for Greeley West, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Poudre's hitters?
Everything went Poudre's way against Greeley West in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Poudre made off with an 8-1 win. Will the Impalas repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
