Fowler extended their winning streak to 12 on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 15-2 in the process. Everything went their way against the Crowley County Chargers as they made off with a 12-5 win. Considering the Grizzlies have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Weston Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Hagen McCuistion and Isaiah Montoya did most of the damage at the plate: McCuistion went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Montoya went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Montoya has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nicolas Higgs, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Fowler was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in ten consecutive matchups.
As for Crowley County, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-9. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Fowler, they, and Peyton.
Like Fowler, Crowley County also got a great game from a two-way player: Tritt Buhr. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, Buhr gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Derreck Buford was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fowler will host Peyton at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least ten runs in their last six games. As for Crowley County, they will challenge Byers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
