The Greenfield-Central Cougars will square off against the Pendleton Heights Arabians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenfield-Central will be strutting in after a victory while Pendleton Heights will be coming in after a defeat.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Greenfield-Central nor North Central made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Cougars walked away with a 6-1 win over the Panthers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Steven Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greenfield-Central is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Ellis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Jacob Welch was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pendleton Heights faced Westfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Arabians took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shamrocks. The game marked the Arabians' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Pendleton Heights also got a good showing from Carson Cauley, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Ty Frakes was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Pendleton Heights has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-3 record this season. As for Greenfield-Central, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield-Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pendleton Heights struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greenfield-Central beat Pendleton Heights 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Arabians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
