The Alcoa Tornadoes will challenge the Watertown Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alcoa will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Alcoa got the win against Soddy Daisy by a conclusive 13-1. Considering the Tornadoes have won 20 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Grayson Burgess, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tori Hahn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Alcoa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Soddy Daisy only posted an OBP of .118.
Meanwhile, it's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Watertown can now relate to. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 14-13 on Wednesday. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.
Alyssa Wood stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Harlie Phillips was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and two doubles.
Watertown's defeat dropped their record down to 21-10. As for Alcoa, their victory bumped their record up to 34-2.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alcoa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .418. However, it's not like Watertown struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Alcoa's way against Watertown in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, as Alcoa made off with an 18-0 win. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
